We had a jolly good weekend in Singapore, the traffic was excellent, secondlink was smooth, however security was tight due to the IMF conference. The after effect of the hectic Singapore trip still lingers especially for me. My tummy decided to show the effect of my massive food binging only today..Hehe! It was more like a "balik kampung" event for all of us since all of us siblings were born in Singapore.
We managed to do a little bit of shopping at the Geylang area for some nice kurung material for Raya (I am always a sucker for last minute baju raya shopping!), which surprisingly is so much cheaper than the materials you see in KL.
We headed for the Malay Village and had the authentic lontong (the rice lontong is wrapped in a banana leave which produces such a lovely aroma), mee rebus, kacang pol, nasi lemak with ikan goreng, rojak with boiled potatoes & deep fried prawns served with hot chilli gravy (not the rojak you normally see in KL) and some other ala Singaporean food at Lau Pa Sat. Lau Pa Sat is the famous "open air" hawker food area located amongst the tall buildings in the Financial area. Hmm, somewhere near the Robinson Road.
I didn't get the chance to hang out at Orchard Road due to the lack of time. My uncle told me that Orchard Road during the IMF conference is usually decorated with beautiful flowers. It is like a garden city..unfortunately I didn't get to see or I would have taken loads of pictures.
My cousin's wedding reception was a simple event with "killer" food. The beriani was so good that we all went back with excess baggages - the big tummy of course. :D It was the first time for me to see the bride and groom as the only ones seated at the "meja pengantin or meja bersantap". Here in Malaysia, the culture is to see both families of the couple seated together with them. The table will be very long to fit in all the selected relatives. Hmmm...may be it is normal for the weddings in Singapore to only have the bride and groom seated at the"meja pengantin". Pretty uncomfortable don't you think when all eyes will only be focusing on the couple! Yiikeess....
I am definitely gonna miss the food and the Singaporean taxi drivers. :D...I just love talking to them, they are so informative, friendly and helpful. Well, it makes a difference you know when the taxi drivers are knowlegeable. They told me that it is a requirement for them to attend courses to not only enhance their communication skills but their rapport with the IMF delegates. Not bad eh!

enjoy nampak.
kalau kat sini, mesti kekok je makan berdua. anyway, i think malaysian pun sepatutnya educate our taxi drivers and also put a minimum age for their cars. taxi fares dah la mahal, at least biarlah selesa.
Hey Nour! So you are my fellow countryman..that's cool! Glad to hear too that you had a good time and everything went well...
Yeah, weddings in Singapore, the married couple will sit by themselves unless the parents want to join then...the akad nikah too is held at home or the Shariah Court, unlike Malaysia, it's held in the Mosque...
You had an eating spree! hehhehehhe..now you gotta go back to dieting huh?...it's oke...one step at a time....
taxi drivers had better be polite and street wise...any hanky panky they will lose their licence..
this weekend the bazaar Ramadan opens in Kg Glam.no more in Geylang Nour....come back soon oke...:)
wow! you really had fun. i had totally forgotten about kacang pol until you mentioned it. my late dad loved it and used to take me for a treat when we stopped by geylang before we headed back to jb!...mmmmm sedapnya!
sepatutnya cam tu aaa, kasi chance sama pengantin makan sama2 ... kita kat sini ja ... tau nak ngacau ja :-)
merapuman,
that is so truela..the condition of the taxis here are pretty bad...ada tu semput je bila on the road and ada tu air cond tak de...and the best part is they don't deduct the fare..the fare is still the same.
blackfeline,
yup now I need to go on a diet ..hehehe after that food binging :D
And here in M'sia we do have the nikah at home or the mosque or even the kadi's office. It depends on the couple/family's preferences.
Ooohh the ramadhan bazar is in Kg Glam...that is something new to me. I just love the food in Singapore..may be because I see the food in KL everyday kan so I tend to appreciate them less. I am definitely heading for Singapore again in Dec for Christmas hols.. InsyaAllah.
mama rock,
you too!! Hehe...kacang pol is from the Middle east I think. Normally what we do is, we buy the kacang pol in cans (cant find them in KL) and packets of the ready made "rempah". Balik rumah we just cook them together. Sedaaap....but somehow the ones kat Geyang tu tasted really nice :)
Azer,
Tapikan bila makan tu kalau ada ramai org lagi meriah, kalau just the two of them, nak makan pun tak lalu asyik nak kena control cun and macho je :D
glad you had a great time! my last-minute raya shopping is worse than yours... it's always the last two weeks! hehe..
Wah..Wah...Seronok sakan you ye. Hehe..
Jade,
Hey girl, actuallykan the nearer it is to raya the more fun it is to go for raya shopping!! Thrill dia best kan?? :) Normally I will just go for the ready made baju kurung.
trueblue,
Hehe...sakanla jugak..:D Penat sakan...but I wish there was more time for the Orchard. Oh well, may be next time.
Selamat berpuasa!
