One in a million….a success?

It’s Sunday morning, and I am still down with my cold and fever. Been sneezing the whole weekend and somehow the cold medication does not seem to work as fast as it used to. Normally, after taking the cold tablet which will force me to sleep for hours and once I am wide awake, I will be cold free. However this time round, the ‘running nose’ keeps haunting me. Oh well, I just have to be patient. May be it’s the age, the medication takes a longer time to work? Hehehehe :P

I was talking to my brother yesterday about the reality show 'One in a million' aired on 8TV every friday. We both came to a conclusion that Dayang Nurfaizah should not be competing in this particular ‘One in a million" show. Reasons being she has the added advantage as compared to the other contestants. The added advantages are as follows:-

1. Vocal/Singing techniques. Apart from the singing talent she already has, she might have gone for many vocal and dancing lessons.

2. Communication skills. She has better rapport with the media. She definitely has better communication skills since I am sure she must have gone through grooming lessons in order for her to be where she is now. What do you expect she has been in the industry for many years. I remembered when she first joined the music industry, she did not have the confidence and her dressing was pretty out. After signing up with ZA cosmetics and some help from the image consultants, she did change for the better. If you look at the finalists now, they definitely look better as compared to Dayang when she was really new to the industry.

3. Showmanship. After years of experience performing in live in-house concerts over RTM or TV3 or even Planet Hollywood, don’t you think she has an added advantage as compared to other finalists? She definitely would have the experience to perform and communicate with the live audience. Interacting with the fans requires loads of experience and I bet she has that.

4. Fan base. Dayang as you all know has always been popular with fans of the R&B genre. After producing a few albums, I bet she has managed to have a powerful and loyal fan base which comes from many years of singing and performing. How can the other finalists compete with that?

I have nothing against Dayang, in fact I like her husky voice.

I can strongly say that “One in a Million’ is a very challenging reality show where from day one itself, the top guns of 8TV had agreed to allow professional singers to enter and compete. As they want every finalist to give their best and outdo those who are already professionals. I am sure their main aim is to produce a winner with professional quality. But then again, this could only be successful when they make it a ground for perfect competition, contestants with the same singing background, experience, vocal strength and skills. Not when there is a vast difference! I bet the new ones are very good and talented but as usual they need the right time frame to prove themselves. 8TV definitely has good intentions but they should have studied the whole process before taking in a professional singer as one of the finalists. They should look and study the contestants first, do these contestants have the essence or the x-factor to outdo the existing professional singers because at the end of the day it will be frustrating to note the vast disparity between Dayang and the rest of the remaining finalists. As for the two permanent juries, Paul Moss can really go off tangent at times, with his unnecessary and harsh remarks.

Oh and I think Dayang should not be related to Beyonce Knowles as I am sure most of you would agree that she has her own unique style eh! ( hmm, I think I came across something said about Dayang being similar to Beyonce in the local papers long time ago)...

I will always love Dayang's voice, for originality she wins...but entering a contest with amateurs(lazy to look up the spelling)is really silly...are they trying to mock her?
If she doesn't win wat will become of her then?
I can't see the show so I can't say much here..Dayang and Beyonce?...far from it!

Nour, agreed it's unfair competition. Playing field is not level in this case I gotta say lah. But Dayang is good nevertheless. Love her voice.

it is also hard for dayang ...the price of losing is higher for her than for others...malu nya lebih kut sbb dia tu professional.
it is also hard for the judges, since they know dayang as an artist already...
but, okey la..sbb i suka gak tgk dayang tu beraksi..:p

hope u get well soon nour....

I guess it's fair, cos 8tv made it clear in the beginning that professionals are welcome to participate. So, the contestants should know what to expect.

I just wonder why is it that only Dayang took the challenge (among the better singers in Msia)

I wasn't a fan of hers before, but now I am. I admire her cos it takes a lot of guts to stand out there and be criticised on tv. Not many Msian artistes dare to take the challenge.

blacfeline,
naah, 8TV wants everyone to do their best, that is their main intentions. But if Dayang doesn't win...it's okay at least she gave her best!

Liza,
I like her voice too, very melidious and very the sedap. Whatever it is, win or lose, Dayang will always have her own fans.

angel,
U too eh :)

Raz,
Yeahla you, it is definitely a challenge for M'sian singers to enter the competition, if they are confident with theirs singing skills why not la kan...take it as a challenge!

Id,
Not you too?? heheh.. amboi FAN setia Dayang no 1 !! Yeah I know the part dia beraksi nyanyi lagi "I am a survivor"..that was good.

Adorable,
Faisal is good too! Very original, nice voice and has the aura..I am sure he can go far...

Ms Elly,
Yup, Dayang wants the money to go international which I think is good. So lets hope all the finalist produces quality performances. As for CT, no lah..I think I am so tired of her. I need a break from CT..haha
