Living your best life...

I’m looking at my checklist now and it looks like I am almost ready for the Singapore trip this Saturday. Yeay!! Minus a little problem I had earlier this morning in finding a hotel that is not fully booked. Wow, I didn’t realize that the great sale in Singapore is such a popular event. Anyway, I’m glad everything is settled and all I need to do is pack my bags.

Last night, after dropping my parents off, I had the urge to visit the regular ‘aunty-DVD’ to replenish my DVD stock. I found one movie I really fancied watching, “Last Holiday” starring Queen Latifah. The verdict - movie was very entertaining and it also left me thinking about life. The story evolves around a sale assistant who works with a departmental store. She lives her life very cautiously, taking one day at a time, waiting for the guy she adores at the working place to approach her, putting everyone’s needs ahead of hers and very well liked by her family and friends. She has this big dream of holidaying in Europe, in a grand hotel and hopes to meet her favourite French Chef. She has all these dreams laid out in a scrap book of hers with pictures of the hotel, mountains and the exquisite chef. She pasted a picture of her and the dream guy together as a married couple. Auuw, talk about "berangan".

A twist of fate, she then discovered her illness. She has a few months before she dies. She withdrew all her savings and headed for the grand hotel in the mountains in Europe. She was no longer cautious in living and just lived her life the way she has always wanted to. She was honest with everyone and her caring attitude brought everyone closer to her.

Life is too precious when one knows that he or she is dying. If not, one would tend to take life for granted and forgets to appreciate those little things we encounter every single day. Many say you should appreciate yourself more, pamper yourself with vacations and not be too stingy with yourself or even with others. A friend of mind, Az passed a remark the other day about another friend Lin, whom we know is very thrifty. Az asked me, why does Lin need to save so much money that she deprives herself from enjoying life. Az said Lin’s clothes are very worn off and her shoes are too old for walking. Az keeps telling me, Lin should enjoy her life as much as she can, she said money is not everything. Who knows, Lin might be happy with her life after all, right?

Frankly, I believe everyone has his or her way of living. One might be happy just by having tones of money in the bank. While for others, globe trekking all year round would keep them happy. There is no RIGHT answer to this. It is how you see yourself. What makes you happy?? My mission is to live my best life hopefully doing things I just love doing. What is your mission in life?
