Oh woww....blimey!

I was browsing through the star website this morning when I stumbled upon a very interesting topic. The article was entitled, "MP: Separate LRT coaches for men and women". My reaction at first - are you kidding me!! The Sri Gading member of Parliament was said to have quoted to the local newspaper, Utusan Malaysia that men and women should be traveling separately on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) coaches to avoid any unpleasant experiences.

He said some passengers were not happy and comfortable with the close contact of bodies when the coaches are packed especially during the peak period. Being a frequent user of the LRT service, I agree with him totally! Oh I can imagine the packed commuters in the train with very little air to breathe and all sorts of aroma and odour. His intentions is definitely good and should be accepted positively by the government and public as is protects mainly the interest of the female commuters.

But I am not sure whether is it practical to implement in reality. It would lead to many operational and timeliness issues. During the peak period, the crowd would be too massive to handle and control. Expecting the public to queue is difficult enough and now getting them to go in an all men or women’s coach could be even worse. I hate the packed sardine can scenarios especially during the early mornings and after work traveling!

The LRT operator would have to find ways on how to separate the male from the females in a short period of time whenever the coaches stop at the platforms for a few minutes or less. They might need to bear more operating cost by hiring more staff to control the crazy crowd. Oh and not to forget the public awareness. Currently having them to queue takes a lot of patience and time, every morning I hear the rapid guys screaming at the top of their lungs to get the crowd to behave. To implement this new ruling if it gets approved could be very time consuming. Well, I guess this is my 2 cents worth of opinion.

What say you? Would you prefer the LRT coaches to be segregated via gender?

Some countries are already practising it, especially during peak hours.

Dunno whether it can be adopted here, though.

Nice template...sweet..feminine...nice choice!

Btw, the segregated coaches for subway I have actually seen it done in either Osaka or Nagoya, I tak ingat. But it was cool because at the platform, they have indicated which waiting area is specifically for those who want to get on the all-women coach..t.hey should implement for M'sian public buses also so you don't get to meet weird guys on the bus (i took the Klang Banting bus for half a year when I first started work and it was so traumatic for me). Few months after I moved jobs and no longer took the Klang Banting bus, I was shocked and sad to hear about the young lady engineer who was raped and murdered by the bus driver on the Klang Banting bus...

hi trublue,
I sukalah main dgn template..it is sooo refreshing..and I get bored so easily with one template.. There are soo many nice free templates out there..and I just love playing around with it.. One of my new hobbiesla kan..hehehe

YeahlaI can't imagine how it is gonna be if they do implement it, like yesterday when they had probs, they just cln't control the crowd.

lil sis,
thanks..I like the template gak..very soothing!

Kat Nagoya ada ke...how come I tak perasan eh! But the subway memang canggih they had like more than ten lines...imagine during rush hour, with all those lines, you have to be cekap, cepat and canggih all in one.

yeah I remember those years masa you commute ke Klang...scarykan. I ikut you the first time to check out the place pun scary!
