My normal routine for a weekday early in the morning while getting ready for work would be switching from one radio channel to another in search of an interesting topic or good selection of songs. So today, the erra station caught my ears (hehe!) with the “lepas geram” session.
This particular station will normally have the "lepas geram” segment to get listeners to share their experiences and frustrations in life. Sometimes the callers can be so damn funny that you will end up laughing your head off together with them. However today’s story was pretty annoying. I never expected Malaysians to act in a barbaric way! The DJ for today’s morning segment was Khairil and Raja Azura (the other DJ, Kiran was probably on leave). A lady called to share her experience in Tesco. It seems, a few nights ago, she was in Tesco (she was in a rush as she was out of milk supply) looking for her baby’s formula when she unintentionally ramped the trolley into a lady and unfortunately the wheels of the trolley hit the lady’s legs. She kept saying sorry profusely but the lady and her family attacked her verbally, thinking that she ramped the trolley on purpose. She said she was surprised to be caught in a situation where people were cursing, screaming, swearing and saying the meanest things to her. She also said the other lady’s legs looked pretty okay. No major damages.
She did not want to create a big scene thus, she decided to push the trolley away and kept saying sorry repeatedly. She wanted to get away from the messy scene and try to just get her formula and leave. Oh boy, what happened next was traumatizing, the family (the lady, husband and son) came back and search for her from aisle to aisle and once they saw her, they ramped onto her with their trolley. Gosh!!! Talk about being sick!
Well, I have ramped my trolley onto someone unintentionally and someone has ramped his/her trolley onto me…But I know it just an accident, sometimes the wheels just gives way, sometimes the aisles are too narrow. Forgive and forget, you don’t need to be nasty and continue to bully the person. Well, I thought we only have road bullies in Malaysia ehhh!! Oh and I was pretty upset that the DJ could tell the caller never to rush when you do your shopping. It is not about doing things in a rush it is about having a civilized mind and a caring heart.

Its sad but true. We have a lot of uncivilised people kat Malaysia ni..
i agree with trueblue...had 1 experience once, this gal potong que and i said to her 'dik beraturlah'..i thought it was over but after a while she came to me while i was eating and asked me 'u ade problem ngan i ke?'and i was so pissed i told her 'yes, memang i ade problem ngan u jump queue, very uncivilised...' then she tersipu2 tak tau nak cakap ape n i can still hear her kutuk2 me when she walked away...
apelah org kite ni.....sedih...sedih....
wow! bukan bawak kereta je ada road bully, bawak trolley pun kena berhati-hati now!
hi nour,
i am blog-hopping, just saw your blog and decided to read your post.
nour, bullies are everywhere. the DJ should have said something wiser than just advising her to not rush while shopping.
the issue here is bullying. i hope the poor lady was all right.
now, what would you do if that happened to you, nour?
hi trueblue,
memang ramai uncivilized people in Malaysia. And some of them are pretty educated..Sigh!
kebaya blur,
good for you for telling her off. At least she knows how uncivilized she is. I normally encounter the uncivilized pple while queueing and when I point out their rudeness for jumping queues...they will tersipu sipu and say sorry..Ada tu pretend tak faham English...Arrghh!!Sedih la to have Malaysians with uncivilized brains.
mama,
tulah tu ingatkan road bullies je yg ada shopping mall bullies pun ada..very dangerous!
hi witch's broo,
thanks for dropping by..Do come again. Yup, the DJ was way out of line for saying that rushing your shopping is the cause of the incident. The lady who got ramped into might be upset but then again their are ways to get your disappointment across to the party who caused the incident. NOT by bullying back! That is bad....
If the same incident happened to me where the lady ramps into me just for revenge. I would just do a report to the tesco mgt. OR mebbe if they dont seem to let go..a police report for stalking me??:D
NOur, they r only human.... what worries me it was the whole family.. a whole bunch of bullies...
The Dj, guess he/she was not well verse to answer or comment on sensitive issues...
Just pray we are not like that!
well, I've beem rammed many times on my heels by a shoppong trolley...it's really painful Nour..all I do is turn around and glare at the person or cry out the loudest OUCH!! hehe..
dade ghost,
yup, I cannot believe that the whole family ganged up to take revenge. Both parents should set good examples..I can understand if they are pissed coz it hurts to be hit by the wheels of the trolley but you can scold the person etc but dont go and attack and in a physical way...that is wrong.
blackefeline,
hehe I do the same I will give the loudest OUCH, scold and stare at the person. You feel angry but you dont physically attack the person. This what I call MAlaysia BOLEH!
Hi Nour,
Thanks for hopping over my blog the other day.
You said, 'it is about having a civilized mind and a caring heart'. I couldn't agree more with you. I am worried that somehow the civics-mindedness of our people have somehow eroded with time. If you asked me why? I have one answer. It has to do with the education.
I think before there were emphasis on character building at schools during story telling time and civics lessons. Not now. Sigh. Of course there are also other influencing factors perhaps harsh and rough portrayals of characters on tv series and films???? It is the trend not to be refined in manners nowadays but of course with the exception of some well brought up minority perhaps.
Hi Ruby,
About the hopping bit, I am glad I did as your entries were pretty interesting. Especially te latest one on your weirdest habits..hehehe..
I totally agree that education is the only way to develope the nation to be civilized and successful. Educating people on the importance of being cultured and selfless.
You are right, I can still remember having to sit for civic classes every week..reading civic books and having to sit for exams at the end of the year. But nowadays I dont think it is mandatory in schools.. Kids should be thot since small to respect and continue to instill the core values.
I strongly believe that parents and the schools (proper education) shld work hand in hand to produce good quality generation.
However, you can also see positive results when the kids are being brought up by families who takes pride in the way they raise their children. Oh well, I hope the younger generation would continue to have good values :)
hmmmm Nour..reading back my comment...I think my Thai is getting to me:))
Hmm... scary. And nowadays, these 'bullies' or whatever you call them, are not afraid to do it in front of their own kids.. talk abt leadership by example, huh?!
There was this one time when I was in Giant, KJ. There was this lady who was q-ing in front of me at the cashier. When she was abt to pay, her coins fell from her wallet. Since she was holding a baby, I bent down to help her retrieve her coins. But after I handed it to her, her face was all angry and she just glared at me. Like hello?! I really don't understand lah all these people..
blackfeline,
I was checking out your blog a couple of mins ago..I can see your Thai is getting better :P
Raz,
Sometimes, parents are not able to control their anger.
That lady must be thinking org nak ambik lima sen dia kot..duhhh...plain rudela these people...org nak tolong...I wld have done the same thing if her coins were to fall infront of me ...and yes it is annoying when the other party just gives you that indifferent look.
Anyways, lets us all continue being ourselves, caring as always.
